Organization of Computer Science

Computer science at Heidelberg University consists of over 20 working groups, which are distributed across several institutions, but are mostly located in the Mathematikon. These include primarily

• the Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science; the examination office is also based at this institute
• the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), and
• the Institute of Computer Engineering at the newly founded Faculty for Engineering Sciences.

Other working groups are located at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy and the Medical Faculty at Heidelberg University.

The people in the working groups also make up the bulk of the members of the various commissions in Computer Science, e.g.,

• the study commission for the bachelor's degree programs in Computer Science and the master's degree programs in Data and Computer Science as well as the Master of Education,
• the admissions committees for the courses,
• the examination board computer science
• the student advisory service, and 
• the doctoral committee in Computer Science

Together, these working groups and the people involved form the core of excellent teaching, research and administration in Computer Science at Heidelberg University.
